Born in Ft. Wayne, Indiana; moving to
Lakewood, Ohio at age 3 months; and finally arriving in
Glendora, California just 2 weeks before my 8th birthday, I
am a California girl. Of course, I had no say in all these
moves, my parents were the masterminds behind bringing their
5 daughters from the Mid-West to Sunny California. Yes, I am
one of 5 girls - the middle child!
In the late 1970's I became interested in
photography, and have been learning the craft ever since. I
never took a class, just kept buying better cameras and
taking lots and lots of pictures. If I looked through the
lens and didn't see exactly what I wanted, I'd improvise and
experiment. Will this work or will this? I still experiment
when I am out on a shoot. Some things work and some do not.
It's the adventure of the lens.
I found I have an eye for framing and
composition. I can get lost while out on a shoot. While at
the ruins of Pompeii, our tour guide was using a microphone
and we all had wireless ear pieces, so I could wander to my
hearts content taking photos of anything that caught my eye.
My husband kept one eye on me and one eye on the guide, so I
would not get separated from the group. No matter where we
are, Pompeii, Monaco, Barcelona, or Mt. Shasta, I am always
lagging behind because I saw something that might be that
great shot. And there is no better feeling, than when you
realize you captured that one moment in time that makes a
great photo.
Soon, friends were asking me to be the
photographer for their wedding or their kid's wedding. Or
I'd be asked to capture a 50th wedding anniversary; or being
asked to take some headshots. And although, I love doing
weddings, portraits, etc., my real love is nature and
travel.
They say you should find what your passion
is and pursue it. Photography is my passion. I am always
looking for that next shot and what surprises I will find
when I look through the lens.
